Information:

The 50 x 60 inch print of "Heart Lake From Mount Jo" shown here is displayed in Rosanne O'Hara's Adirondack Room (Thanks for letting me use your photo Rosanne!).

Heart Lake is located in the High Peaks area of the Adirondacks (not far from Lake Placid). The Adirondack Mountain Club operates the Adirondack Loj on the shore of Heart Lake as well as a visitor's center and a large parking area for access to the high peaks.

There are many trails offering access to the High Peaks, however, the area is often overused. It is not unusual to see bus loads (literally) of people heading up a fragile mountain trail. Please use caution on these trails and treat them with the greatest respect. Stay away on holiday wekends unless you don't mind crowds.

Mount Jo is a great little climb --- very rewarding views for the amount of effort required (less than 2 miles round trip from the parking lot). From the summit are spectacular views of Heart Lake, South Meadow, Algonquin Mountain, Indian Pass, Mount Marcy, and Cascade Mountain to name a few.

To Get There: Look for the sign 4 miles south of Lake Placid on Route 73. Follow the road to its end for the Adirondack Loj and the main parking area. Or, turn left onto South Meadows Road for an alternate approach to the high peaks. For Mount Jo, park at the hiker's parking lot or at Adirondack Loj if you are staying there as a guest.

For the Shutterbugs:

"Heart Lake From Mount Jo" was created with my Hasselblad 500 CM camera, 50 mm lens with polarizing filter, Bogen 3021 tripod: f22 for 1/2s. Film - Kodak Ektar 25 (an outstanding negative film).
